MEDICAL-BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
In 1983 the Department of Medical-Biological Research headed by Doctor of Science B.M.Klebanov has been founded in the Institute. The Department included a Laboratory of Biological Tests of Chemical Compounds headed by PhD V.S.Petrenko. The creation of the Department was connected with the necessity to develop works in elaboration of medicinal preparations. The main scientific tasks of the Department are as follows: study of the mechanisms of chemical compounds biological action, determination of dependence of biological action on the structure, study of growth regulating, herbicide, antidote activity, toxicity and pharmacological properties of the substances, introduction of the created preparations to agriculture and medicine.
The scientists of the Department successfully completed the tests of plant growth regulators, such as Ivin, Ivin-Yan (Poteitin), Ivin-X (Capanin), Dextrel, Dextramin-N, Farbizol, Resin, Triamelon, Simarp, Retam, patented highly effective root forming stimulators Nortiol and Ivinor in collaboration with chemists from IOCh NASU, Institute of Bioorganic and Petrochemistry NASU, and specialists of agricultural branch.
The priority work direction is research in the field of pharmacology of fluorine-containing cardio-vascular remedies (Supervisor – Prof. L.M.Yuagupolskii). This work in collaboration with Bogomolets Physiology Institute resulted in development of new medicines with original action mechanism, they are: blocker of calcium channels Foridon, hypotensive drug Diazoxid, new potassium channels activator Flokalin. Many potential medicinal substances studied in the Department have been introduced to medicine, these are: antiphlogistics Diftorant, Antral, Mefenaminic Acid, Mefenaminic Acid Natrium Salt, Deytiforin, antidepressants and acto-protectors Bemitil, Yakton, Befol, uterus stimulating Ademol, etc.
