    Main player in French research with 1100 affiliated laboratories (over 85 % in partnership with higher education and other research institutions) 
    •Total personnel in all 1100 affiliated CNRS labs 83,500
    –63,500 permanent positions
             (researchers, faculty and support staff)
    –20,000 temporary positions
              (PhD students, post-docs, visitors)
    •Of which on direct CNRS payroll 33,500
    –11,500 (44%) permanents researchers
    –14,500 (56%) permanent support staff
    –  7,500 short-term positions
              (PhD students, post-docs, visiting scholars…)

    Exchange mobility agreements

     

    Project between 2 laboratories (researchers), duration 2 years
     
    Hosting of researchers for duration of one week to one month, within the framework of joint research projects. 
     
       
    (indicative CNRS funding: 4 kˆ/year)
     
    One call per 2 years, selection is country-specific based on the excellence and novelty of the proposal. 
     
     Projects involving young researchers should be given priority !
    Joint Call for proposals under way with the Academies of Sciences of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus
     Joint call for proposal launched in 2009 with institutions of 3 countries of southern Caucasus
    International Project of Scientific Cooperation  (PICS)

     

    Validates a cooperative research effort already well underway,    structured around a well-defined research theme
     
    Duration: 3 years (non renewable)
    Indicative CNRS funding: 7 kˆ/year for short research stays, meetings, minor research operating costs
     
    Reviewed for excellence, considering  the CNRS and the partner’s priorities
     
    One call par year, selection at CNRS is not country - specific
    Joint Call for proposals with the Foundations for Basic Research of Russia and Belarus (2008)and theAcademy of Sciences of Ukraine (2008 )

     

    International Research Network - GDRI
    A Network of research laboratories (public and private) from several countries on a specific topic - gather 10 laboratories at average
    Duration 4 years (renewable once)
    Indicative CNRS funding: 10 - 20 kˆ/year
    Call permanently opened for submission of proposals, decision on support made by scientific Institute of CNRS and foreign partner(s)
    Specific agreement is signed regarding juridic and legal matters
         
    with scientific and financial annexes
    Funding primarily cover:
    •Coordination
    •Mobility, organisation of seminars, workshops
